Eid al-Adha is the second and biggest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr). It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (peace upon him) to sacrifice his son Ismail (peace upon him) as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, Allah provided him with a lamb which he was supposed to kill in his son’s place because of his willingness to sacrifice his own son in the name of God. In commemoration of this intervention, animals are ritually slaughtered. One third of their meat is consumed by the family which offers the animal, while the rest of the meat is distributed to the poor and the needy. Sweets and gifts are given, and extended family members are typically visited and welcomed.The day is also sometimes called the Greater Eid.

عيد الأضحى هو أحد العيدين عند المسلمين (والعيد الآخر هو عيد الفطر)، يوافق يوم 10 ذو الحجة بعد انتهاء وقفة يوم عرفة، الموقف الذي يقف فيه الحجاج المسلمون لتأدية أهم مناسك الحج، وينتهي يوم 13 ذو الحجة. يعدّ هذا العيد أيضاً ذكرى لقصة إبراهيم عليه السلام عندما رأى رؤيا أمره فيها الله بالتضحية بابنه إسماعيل عليه السلام، وبعد تصديقه وابنه للرؤيا، أمره الله بعدها بذبح أضحية بدلا عن ابنه، لذلك يقوم المسلمون بالتقرب إلى الله في هذا اليوم بالتضحية بأحد الأنعام (خروف، أو بقرة، أو جمل) وتوزيع لحم الأضحية على الأقارب والفقراء وأهل بيتهم، ومن هنا جاءت تسمية عيد الأضحى.

Egyptian agricultural exports stats in 2022

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El-Sayed El-Kosayer, Egyptian Agricultural exports recorded more than 3.5 million tons in the first five months of 2022. The surplus is exported after fulfilling the local market’s needs, to bring in foreign currency.

El-Kosayer pointed out that the most important agricultural exports are citrus fruits, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, strawberries, fresh and dry beans, garlic, and watermelon. At the top of agricultural exports are citrus fruits, recording 1.48 million tons, followed by 746,950 tons of potatoes, then 152,560 tons of onions.

Egypt is the largest exporter of citrus fruits in the world, with oranges accounting for approximately 80% of Egypt’s total citrus crops. The fourth most exported crop was beans with a total of 70,472 tons, while potatoes ranked fifth with a total of 38,635 tons.

Moreover, Egypt’s exports of tomatoes ranked sixth with a total amount of 30,878 tons, grapes seventh with a total of 27,380 tons, followed by strawberries with a total of 19,425 tons, garlic with a total of 17,296 tons, and watermelon coming in last with a total of 5,341 tons.
